Book Keeping & Accounting

Maintaining the books a business is required to keep, reconciled and closed on a regular cycle, so that returns, statements and management reporting all draw on the same records.

Day-to-day book keeping

Recording sales, purchases, expenses, receipts and payments into the ledgers on a regular cycle, with supporting documents filed against each entry. Covers chart of accounts setup, opening balances when moving from another system, and the classification conventions the business will use consistently.

Bank and ledger reconciliation

Reconciliation of bank statements to the cash book, and of control accounts to their subsidiary ledgers, at the end of each period. Covers identification of unrecorded, duplicated and timing-difference items, and clearance of long-outstanding entries.

Payables and receivables

Maintenance of supplier and customer ledgers with ageing, so that what is owed and what is due is visible at any point. Covers matching of invoices to receipts and payments, and reconciliation of balances with counterparties where they differ.

Periodic financial statements

Preparation of the trial balance, profit and loss account and balance sheet for the period, together with the schedules supporting each line. Covers period-end entries for depreciation, accruals, prepayments and provisions.

Statutory record keeping

Maintenance of the books and records required under the applicable statutes, in the form and for the period each requires. Covers the registers, invoices and documents that GST and income tax proceedings draw on, kept so they can be produced when called for.

Management reporting

Periodic reporting drawn from the same books, covering the figures a business uses to make decisions between statutory filings. Scope and frequency are set to what the business actually reviews.
